With any creation comes a responsibility, as its known existence will impact the audience. Even if the impact is negligible, it will leave a trace of passage on the beholder. My aim, therefore, whether abstract or figurative, is to produce images that shun the macabre and try to offer something visually pleasurable either through colour, humanity or humour. We possess what we create.
I have two painting styles. One that is
calculated, methodical and planned, where I see the finished painting in my
head before it is even started (Despite this, it is important to note that I never do preliminary sketches, I'd get bored of my topic before even starting the work). The other method is instinctual, similar to the
Inuit sculptor who works with a piece of soapstone to discover the animal
hiding within.Shapes and colours are placed because it feels
right to have them there and I only know when a piece is finished when I feel
everything works harmoniously.It is an
adventure in a two dimensional world.
All my works are either in acrylics or in watercolours. If you are interested in prints, please drop me an email. Many of these paintings can be purchased as giclée prints on quality Hahnemuhle photo rag paper as limited editions, most under £100. I have indicated print available at the bottom of pictures that have already been printed and are on file. If you are interested in a piece that is not indicated as being available, please contact me as I can make arrangements to do the same for other works that might be of interest. My prints can also be purchased from the Seagrass Studio Gallery in Hoylake: www.seagrassstudio.co.uk .
Please note that with all works of art, the copyright remains with the artist. None of these pieces can be used for commercial purposes or reproduced without permission.
